“It's up to you today to start making healthy choices. Not choices that are just healthy for your body, but healthy for your mind.” - Steve Maraboli
The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community”. Good mental health has a positive impact on all areas of our lives and is an integral part of our general well being.
Most of us take the time to regularly visit the dentist, the optometrist, and the family physician, but we often overlook our mental health. Instead of being proactive, we wait until we are in crisis before seeking help. In any given year, one in five Canadians will experience a mental health or addiction issue and by the age of 40 one in two of us have, or have had, a mental illness.
During your Neck-Up Check-Up you will be provided with self-assessment tools and resources to help maintain your mental well-being. You will be encouraged to discuss personal information openly in a safe environment.
